CALM (Career and Life Management) - FULL

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Career and Life Management (CALM) is the core course for health literacy at the senior high school level in Alberta and is a requirement for high school graduation. CALM aims to enable students to make well-informed, considered decisions and choices in all aspects of their lives and to develop behaviors and attitudes that contribute to the well-being and respect of self and others. Black Gold Summer School offers a CALM course package for 5 credits by bundling CALM (3 credits) with two complementary courses – Job Preparation (1 credit) and Workplace Safety Systems (1 credit).

COURSE FEE: $25.00

COURSE DELIVERY

Our CALM Summer School package is delivered entirely online through Google Classroom. All registrants will need access to a computer and reliable internet service for the duration of the course. Each student is expected to work independently through seven self-directed learning modules, accessing in-person tutorial assistance at Leduc Composite High School Learning Commons only if requested. There are no tests or exams to write in Summer School CALM.

COURSE SCHEDULE

Students who have registered for CALM will be enrolled in their Google Classroom during the final week of May and will be able to start coursework right away if they wish. Most students take 12 – 15 hours to complete the assignments in each CALM module, with one module due every Monday and Thursday throughout July. (See CALM calendar below.) This shortened timeline means that students will need to work online for 4 – 5 hours each day in July to successfully complete this course. Consequently, it is highly recommended that Summer School CALM students do not plan holidays or work full-time in July.
