Introduction to Fabrication is an entry-level, 3-credit summer school course primarily focused on tool safety and recognition. This foundational course is designed for students with little to no prior experience in metal fabrication and welding. By the end of this course, students will have the practical skills to safely cut, tack, and weld basic joints and materials.

What You Will Learn:

  • Tool Recognition and Use: Become familiar with common tools used in metal fabrication, including their purposes and operations. Learn how to select the right tool for the job.
  • Safety Practices: Emphasize the importance of safety in fabrication. Learn to implement standard safety procedures to protect yourself and others while using sharp and high-t DC temperature tools.
  • Basic Welding and Cutting Techniques: Gain hands-on experience with basic welding techniques. Learn to cut metal using plasma cutters and acetylene torches.
  • Tacking and Welding Joints: Practice tacking techniques to hold metal pieces in place before welding. Learn to perform straightforward welds on basic joints, enhancing your ability to create simple structures or repair items.

The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of Fabrication 10. Fabrication 20/30 is an intermediate-level, 3-credit summer course designed to build on the foundational skills acquired in Fabrication 10. This course focuses on enhancing students’ welding abilities, enabling them to weld materials safely in multiple positions, including flat and horizontal. It’s ideal for students looking to refine their welding techniques and increase their practical knowledge in metal fabrication.

What You Will Learn:

  • Advanced Safety Protocols: Deepen your knowledge of safety measures to include advanced welding settings and environments.

Welding in Multiple Positions: Learn and practice welding in different positions:

Flat Position Welding: Enhance your skill in the most basic welding position with advanced techniques.

Horizontal Position Welding: Tackle more complex welds that are essential in many construction and fabrication jobs.
